An Adult Tale

Dating means different things to different cultures. For the modern west, it may mean exclusively seeing someone of the opposite sex. Thus, they call it "exclusively dating". For some other cultures, the meaning may include a group of friends going out together, or a couple eating at a restaurant and catching up with each other's lives. Moreover, it may also mean a man and a woman who are in love and are committed to one another.

Since I belong to the female species, allow me to talk more particularly about dating men. I can say I have dated fairly a number of guys, both nice ones and those who need to go through etiquette lessons. Some of these dates remained to be ordinary brief encounters while others have flourished over several years. Dating men for me is not only an avenue for meeting new people and establishing a pool of contacts. More than that, I want to meet that someone I would eventually spend the rest of my life with.

Of the instances that I dated men, I can remember only one person and I can really compare him with the others I had been with.

It was one of those days that I found myself arguing again with my boyfriend then. I went out with my girl best friend for a late night snack. Aware that I was depressed, she decided to take with her some of her friends that I had not met yet. One of them was the guy. I thought he was just going to be one brief encounter, but as the night went on, we found ourselves very comfortably talking with each other. The next day, I saw his car parked outside of our house. I did not recognize it to be his at first, but I eventually did as I saw him alight from the car. He then asked for our first day together. Days went on and we grew even closer with each other. Needless to say, I broke up with my boyfriend and we decided to officially and exclusively date each other. Five years have passed and I still remember that one night that changed my life forever.

Though the most awaited part, the proposal, has not come yet, we talk about the future together. We see ourselves planning a lot for the years ahead.

Dating men is never a negative thing, especially if you learn from the mistakes you have made. Dating men is never a negative thing, especially when it leads you to the one who is going to make you his wife one day.
